Ask Me

Ask Me

A Poem by December Blaize

You wear that short dress, in the hallway
They whisper, murmur, walk quickly past--
You disgust them,
But not me, no, I know that's not you.
So who is it, Krissie, who's behind the mask?
The drugs don't work, honey,
Everybody knows it and they'll tell you
If you ask.

You light that match, in the classroom
They whisper, murmur, look quickly away--
You scare them,
But not me, no, I know I'm not you.
So who am I, Krissie, standing in your fire?
Those marks mean one thing; crazy,
Everybody thinks it and they'll tell me
If I ask.

You wipe those tears away, in the bathroom
They whisper, murmur, stab quickly through--
You disgrace them,
But not me, no, I know the real you.
So where is she, Krissie, locked away inside?
Your want to break out, be free,
I see it and I'll help you
If you ask.
