Puerto Rico Cemetery(by the sea)

Written Autumn, 2011- based on a picture of a young woman by a cemetery by the sea in Puerto Rico, a photo taken by someone I knew


Shadows on the land
Shadows on the stones
Sun in the sky
Sun on the sea
Blue gray eternity

Peaceful finally
Are the ones who
Rest below these stones
Cemeteries by the sea

Time is short for you
And me the girl seems
To think as she sits
On the land of the earth

Just above the land of the
Dead and spends the long
Afternoon watching the
Shadows fall over the seaside

Cemetery over that day's reality
It's now just memory
But the dead stay
On as does the sea

Through the night
Though the girl leaves
At the end of the sun
Her contemplation done

Cemeteries by the sea
Cemeteries by the shore
Where the dead are at
Peace whatever was before
