July Night in a Cemetery

July Night in a Cemetery

A Poem by Summer Grace

Written November, 2010

All these things are gone by
For those under these angel
Wings, regret and pain and
Earthly things, all's quiet

In the summer shadows
Of a timeless night in July
When everything's alright
Everything's okay, the

Living and the dead have
Different places to stay,
To sleep, on this night under
The stars earthly lovers

Rest close together lest
Time disturb their forever
Dead lovers sleep under
The ground, dust in death

White stars watch over both
The angel wings watch over the
Dead protected by memory,
Lost in eternity while earthly

Lovers are lost in each other
Tonight nothing's perfect
Time comes over us all
And the dead never stir

Leaving us memories of
Times that were but
Love transcends all
Time, even love gone by
Cannot lie that it once was
Real, and even yet, is
Somewhat, still

I really liked this piece. From what I gathered, death is depicted as a state being in which one needs to make and be at peace rather than something to be feared. It's quite refreshing. I also get the sense that this poem is the "story of the loved one" from both ends of the coin in a way.
