My Mind Wanders

A poem I just finished.

Sometimes, I simply

can’t help it.

Although Earth’s

gravitational force

struggles to

hold me down,

my mind manages

to free itself

from its clutches.

My mind drifts off,

to lands with

dragons and

ogres and

mermaids and

wizards,

and I daydream

about what if it

would be like

if they were real…

If I had the power

to levitate things,

to fly,

would everyday life

be easier

or more difficult?

Sometimes,

I actually

convince myself

that I do have

those incredible

powers,

and I imagine

the reactions

of my friends,

my family,

my peers.

Would they

be mortified

or

accept me

for who I am?

Would there be

rules, 

like in some fantasies,

where I would have to

keep my powers

a secret?

Would I?

Would I defy the laws

 to impress others?

Or what if

I flew around

on a hippogriff

or a Dragon?

Where would I keep it?

Would I have

to build

a shelter for it

in my backyard?

These sorts of

thoughts

swirl

around

and

around

in my head,

and then,

when I finally manage

 to clear

my mind,

I realize that

I am in Earth Science.

"about what if it" You don't need an 'if' here but that's the only error I can find. as for the poem I can COMPLETELY relate to this! I've always been the type to have my 'head in the clouds'. I like how you expressed it all in a poem! While I was reading through this I kept thinking... hey I've done that^.^ and it would be SO COOL if it actually happened... tho my backyard is kinda small so I don't think i'll be able to build a shelter back there for a pet dragon... i'd just build it at the school next to my house^.^ lol Great write! thanx for sharing it with me!

Hardly a poem, and I say this because the stanzas are very short, and underneath them there will be only two words starting, or finishing a stanza. This was great besides that! I know how you feel, I totally wonder like that during class too.

I liked the poem. Even though it didn't have much description-most poems don't, and that's good- I could imagine a girl actually flying on a dragon. It was nice.
