Landsdowne High!A Story by Xena the soon to be 9th graderWhat motivated you to apply to this
academy program?
Well, my love for
forensic science did. I applied to this program because I knew that it
would help me reach my life goals. I
know that knowing about your body and how it works is a good advance in the
field of forensic science. I also really enjoy health science. I like to learn
about how the body works and then applying that knowledge to real life
situations. What experiences have you had in this
area of concentration?
I have no true experience of this area of concentration, but my mom is a
nurse whom I may go to whenever I may need help. What do you want to do after graduating
from high school/ college?
After high school I am going to go to a good college where forensic
science courses are provided. I may not know what college that is, but I know
what I am looking for in a college that would be suited as good for me.
After college I am going to find a job working with forensic science. I
want to have a job working in the lab or at crime scene, whether it’s working
with the FBI or a local Police Department. As long as I am doing the thing I
love most. What are your strengths in school?
My strengths in school are definitely science, writing (English),
reading, and world cultures. I am best at English class because I like to
write. Whenever we have a project to work on, I always choose to make it in
Essay form. Identify the skills and aptitudes you
possess that will help improve our school and this academy.
I am a quick and eager learner. I am eager to go to high school,
especially Lansdowne, so I am sure to have a good influence on your school. What three words do you think best
describe you? Provide an example that illustrates your response.
Three words that describe me best are energetic, social, and helpful.
For example I am a very happy and joyful person, I like to socialize a lot and
I am a friendly. I am always the first person to try to talk to the new
girl/boy. Whenever my aunt has a party, I always like to help get everything
set up, just because I enjoy helping. I’m always helping my friends with their
homework or classwork.
Which sports or activities do you
participate in? What do you find most satisfying about your participation?
Describe what you have done to benefit your community.
I do not participate in sports by choice. I am not an outdoors person. I
rather stay inside and cozy up with a book or watch some TV. I can say that an
activity I participate in is Band and Wind Ensemble. I find actually playing my
instrument (flute) satisfying. I like learning how to play harder and more
advance pieces. For example one of the pieces we are learning to play now is
red balloon. This piece is very difficult because it has no flats, so we
continuously play naturals through the piece, unless a sharp symbol appears. I
also cannot truly say I have done anything to help my community, but that is
one of the reasons I am so eager to go to high school. I want to volunteer at
charities and nursing homes. So, that way I can be helpful, earn student
service learning hours, and further enhance my knowledge of health and bodily
functions in order to be more successful in life!
If you could spend a day with any person
who ever lived, who would it be? What
would you discuss?
This question has never crossed my mind before, but I did some thinking,
and if I could spend one day with a person who ever live it would be Dr. Edmond
Locard. Dr. Edmond Locard is a primary resource in the study of forensic
science. He is considered the “father” or “pioneer” of science. He joined
forces with the French police department and was the first to ever set up a
forensics lab. He only asked for two quiet rooms, two assistances, and thus in
those two rooms, forensic science came alive! For the next 40 years he created
many scientific terms and techniques that are still used to this day! If could have the pleasure of having a
discussion with him, I would ask if he knew that he was on the brink of
discovering useful information in the barley known world of forensic science or
was it by accident! I would ask him how he understood how to crack so many
crimes. I would also ask him if he knew what he was doing after his discoveries
were made or did he get better as time went by.
