Seaside TownA Poem by SueBit of a love letter to Southsea where I live....It’s deserted now as I walk along the
promenade The wind whistles over the sea Across the pebbles rattling kiosks and
flagpoles Hardy dog owners enjoy unrestricted
freedom Couples hand in hand are strolling Wrapped up against the cold Ambling leisurely as they gaze Into the green depths and each other’s
eyes Hard to believe only a few short
months since A beach full of holidaying families Kids laughing and playing, mum and dad
sunbathing Watching amused at the screams and
sighs The noisy funfair crashing and
bleeping Candy floss floating, pink rock
peeping out Chips, sausages, sliding down throats Ice-cream dripping down chins Cafes full to the brim, teeming with
life Ladies and gents playing bowls or
bingo Visiting ships or war museums No quiet nook to stop and think Now it’s all over excitement is past Time for slow pace, sea air and
contemplation Catching up on winter pursuits for a
while Until once more the whole world
descends on a seaside town © 2015 Sue |
