City Storm

City Storm

A Poem by Subversive Reality

Black sky of urban jungle near midnight,
You know the stars reside above,
Yet shrouded in perpetual dark,

Opaque from clouds or smog,

Or obscured by street lights, juvenile,
Shouting persistent,
As if in need of attention

The first drops falling,

Pitter patter on thistle flowers,

Marking the edge of roadsides

Forgotten by council Gardner

And slow, the trickle grows to downpour,
Ironic assault from that which gives life,

Could even take it from cold wet exposure

Clap! The thunder snaps with a booming sound,
Shaking your heart to its very core
As instinct refers a tiger's roar
Back in ancestral bush, tug for survival risen,

A Phoenix from dust in this modern cityscape,

You break in pace from trot to run,
Sprinting to save yourself

From blue blaze of merciless lightning,

That  strikes down with a fury,

Vengeance of the skies

Close, too close, but not too far,

The door in sight to warm inside,

Fumbling key jingle,

Twist and turn,

Safe for one more night
