Spirituality

A Poem by Subversive Reality

Think this not of words and scripture biased
To one side or faith inspired
By single picture

Think this not of steeple spires
Of any building
Or prophets tired
By woes or ways
Or presence sired

Though it does not detract or sear
That or those who choose their seer
It does not judge or jibe but accepts
As those that do should in meek return

Spirituality
Is not but what it means for people
Individual liberty,
For that with which to feel is free

For us, for you,
for them, for me
It reels, and peels
the shallow veneer
The song we choose to feel

And if you do or don't,
In this or that which way
Or ways in which need no say
Of bless or curse to play

It matters not your choice
Or voice of eminence
To dust and dusk of mortal urn
Your faith is your concern

For any person with belief,
Especially those without,
Please respect each other

Whether devout, or faithless

Author's Note

Subversive Reality
This is not an attack on religion. Its a message, mainly to my fellow atheists, that belief (or lack of it) is a personal choice and should be respected. Too many atheists disrespect and degrade religious belief, only seeing the conflict it causes (as if science never caused any problems - ahem nuclear bomb) and not recognising the great things it has given the world (identity, culture, artistic influences, ethical concepts, charity, unity for groups of people, meaning and hope for the dying, the list goes on).
