Old Friend

Old Friend

A Poem by Kara Hadley
"

its been so long. -enjoy-

"

I found my friend;

an old friend, a dear friend.

I got to hear his soft laugh

instead of his current clipped words.

Its been so long.

He was right in front of me,

holding the key out to me,

asking, almost begging, me to take it

and open the door.

I hadn’t used it in so long.

A promise I don’t remember made me frown

on that particular key.

But the prisoner had escaped for the night,

the prisoner was given the key,

to unlock the door,

to the prisoner’s long, old friend.

Through the door and over the hills

the white horse turned rabbit went.

Deeper and deeper; the robot beeped and booped.

The robot danced.

I found an old friend,

that I had already mourned.

Through a door that I shouldn’t want,

or so they say.
