PostSecretsA Poem by Kara Hadleypostsecret.com -enjoy-
I found your secrets
Written in your scrawled hand
On a creased piece of paper
In the cushions of your couch
I was in your room
Looking for drugs
And I found
So much more.
A letter from your dad.
One from your siblings.
A college rejection letter.
A bank notice.
Your disciplinary probation contract.
And your secrets.
All folded
And creased
And shoved somewhere
Do words no longer matter?
To you.
Words and letters and sentences
Printed on paper
What do you think?
When you read them.
Your bookshelves were full
Of books you’ve read
But what about those?
Books on your shelves.
Do you still feel the tingle?
Of meaningful, powerful words.
Half the letters were filled.
With love;
You say you don’t feel
Anymore.
The other half?
Rejection and hurt;
You absorb
Ten fold.
I’ve told you forever
How everything wonderful
You can be
And are
But yet there are your secrets
Written out
All graphite and blue lines
For all the world to feel
I took them.
In my back pocket of my skinny jeans.
When I got home I reread them.
Over and over
Pulling out the pain
And myself.
Now?
They’re in my box;
A prized possession.
Like a rusty bullet from you yard.
Beautiful in their
Tarnished
Dirtied
Feeling.
Where have your emotions gone?
