Composition for Cutters

A Poem by Kara Hadley
"

a class assignment. -enjoy-

Cold metal therapists
Find their mark
in an Instant
Something changes
Life slips through slits
Humbling
Affirming
Liveliness
the fresh tears dry
No more shall Come
their drops Like prophetic Acid
sure to occur
bringing forth red life
Forever reminded
of Days in bathrooms
Nights of darkness
Red dots penetrating
Sterile Grays
stinging Pain radiates
feeling like Sharpened Butter Knives
Acute but not in color
One Two Three
A few more tallies
Quantity prevails
Once a horrifying thought
Another thread in my loom
Crimson to the surface
Happy books now hold
Session stories
Red turns to white
Purple
and brown
Hidden by clothes
and piles of bracelets
or Highlighted against pale skin
This is for the Cutters
Who can’t deal in any other way
or just want a quick Fix
for the Problems that plague them
Cutters stand Proud
show your Beautiful
Angry wounds
And know
You’re not Alone

"Once a horrifying thought
Another thread in my loom"

This is good, very good. I dated a girl who used to cut. She described the sensation similarly, a reluctance coupled with an intense need that can never be filled, kinda like a drug addiction. Each wound is a tally, as you write, and they can pile up fast.

A solid, impactful work.
