Defeated

Defeated

A Poem by Subhadeep Banerjee

Just a second of everlasting pain.
Then everything goes too quiet...
I rose from my shackles, free;
Still the taste of cyanide in my mouth.

Hard to be a hero-
Never knew when I was born;
Found a cold world outside,
Too cold too feel the warmth of love.

Born to save the world, was I ?
The world rose against me.
...The hero failed.
Suddenly,
Cyanide seemed the only escape
From failure.
