Only Skin Deep

Only Skin Deep

A Poem by Iota

I have to wonder did I learn this truth or

was it innately given to me before birth

past down from generations of ancestral men

who suffered from the very same affliction

I am guilty, guilty as all sinful sin!

like Medusa’s curse one look and my heart stops

I am frozen in time when she is merely walking by

my breath rate is in tune with the vibrant dips of her raspberry hips

there is no one else, no earth beneath my feet

the sky is a void of colorless existence

she becomes everything even greater than God himself

it is her scent as she whisks by me

that snaps me back into the land of the living

so sweet!  it is more satisfying than Godiva’s chocolate

my knees buckle from the after affect of her presence

and all I can muster is this whisper

“Damn she’s so damn…..  sexy!”  tasting blood from biting my lips

that’s my first complete coherent cognitive thought

since I first had the pleasure of seeing her

I am guilty, guilty as all sinful sin!

for first loving a woman just based on her skin

I would rather die of starvation

then to go blind and never see her again

I have to wonder did I learn how to lust after women

or was it innately a part of me before birth

past down from generations of ancestral men

who loved women at first glance

the only cure for this affliction

is to fall deeply in love with only one

I am guilty, guilty as sinful sin!

the consequences of loving her only skin deep

is the same as seeing heaven and never ever experiencing it

When someone is so beautiful it is hard to slow down and listen to her thoughts. When we are overtaken by passion we may forget to listen and truly understand someone. I like the lesson of your words. I tell the kids walk slow and easy into a relationship. Have long talks and great trips to discover what is inside the beautiful skin. A outstanding poem. Very powerful and a strong story.

ahhhhh..... such a lovely write, makes me happy to be a woman! Your beloved is a lucky girl indeed! Skin is only the beginning- I agree!!! And what is so sinful in admiration? Lust is a gift to monogamy, is it not? We deserve it:)

This was not only passionate, sexy, and elegant, it was also thought-provoking with the point that you tried to prove in this writing. I love the repetition of the opening stanza because when it's heard the second time it drives the point home. Great, great job.

Passion elegantly voiced love :)
This is beautiful! The sin that is felt and yet at the same time, relished! The power of lust and the effect of being infused in what feels right brings heaven forth at tremendous haste! lol
AWESOME poem hon, I LOVE it!

Wonderfully put and vibrant dip of her raspberry hips..divine..simply. Yes beauty is only skin deep. A fair face may fade, but a beautiful soul lasts forever.

Wonderful words throughout and such fabulous imagary. You ask a good question, lust is not love though and only knowing someone inside and out can we love, but the eye appreciates beauty, and we lust for the beauty........I love this poem and the repetition of I am guilty, guilty as sinful sin, works so well, it adds alot of power to the lustful thought!

Hey, Iota, long time. I just caught something that I don't think you meant to put, 3rd stanza line 11 "...all I can mustard..." Did you mean 'muster' by any chance? Otherwise, I like the poem, it speaks of the basic, carnal instinct in everyone, not just men. (Women have the same reaction) I'll be reading some more of your stuff, I'm so behind :P
