Soy Nero (2016) was nominated for the Golden Bear at the 66th Berlin International festival. The Los Angeles premiere of Soy Nero will be shown to an audience of community advocates and celebrity guests on Tuesday August 22 at the Historic Egyptian Theatre to raise awareness of immigrant contributions. The screening will benefit Familia Unida a Los Angeles Based nonprofit that serves over 15,000 individuals a year living with a disability. Services include counseling, case management, community events, and immigration resources including those shared by community organizations invited to attend. After the showing there will be a Q&A with Director Rafi Pitts and Actors along with Special Guest Awardee. Tickets are free to the public with donations greatly accepted. The red carpet will begin at 6pm with the movie following at 7pm. The film, directed by Rafi Pitts ("Sanam," "The Hunter") and written by Pitts and Razvan Radulescu ("The Death of Mr. Lazarescu" and "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days") chronicles the life of Mexican-American teen Nero (Johnny Ortiz), as he trades life on one border for another as a "green card soldier," in search of American citizenship. Award Presentation after the movie will recognize Daniel Torres, for his contributions to the films spirit and his work with the Deported Veterans Support House.
