Dragon

Dragon

A Poem by Tony
"

This is an attempt to describe what it is like to ride a modern motocross motorcyle over a 12 mile mountain loop.

"
As he approaches the Dragon,
She purrs..
and the ground vibrates.

Once astride her neck,
she roars.
And in an instant, they levitate.

Her strength is frightening, pulling, pulling away.
He consciously remembers, "Relax...."
Weighting on the outside, raise your elbow too..
The verb of the moment is, Attack.

Rising and falling,
Aggressively
yet rhythm dominates.

Adrenalin surging,
that is the key!
Faster now, don't hesitate.

Minute by minute, exquisite the taste,
Of perfect concentration,
Alone with the Dragon, Alone in existence,
He reels, giddy, this elation!

After an hour
she knows...
She must put him to ground.

She hates it....."It's too soon...!
he pouts.
It's for his own good.

She is dangerous.
He is sated, exhausted..still wired...

Perhaps one more lap for the road.....

Author's Note

Tony
It is extremely difficult to describe the perfect liberty of dirtbikes.
I can say it is a hobby of the most gratifying nature.
It was how I escaped from 'reality', relationships, drugs, and the middleage pudgy syndrome.
I get goose bumps just thinking about it, but I know I don't have the strength and reflexes required to enjoy this sport correctly without breaking my neck. I have passed the time frame allowed with this body. I have tried putting around on little enduro bikes and stuff, but it isn't the same, and I end up misusing the poor little skinny forked foo-foo bike.

It is, in case you didn't know, the most physically and mentally demanding sport in the world, on a professional level.
Ricky Carmichael had a resting heart rate of 28.
It is not a sport for everyone, but if you really need to get something cool in your life, and you are young.
I recommend it.

You know it, Tony. I'm too old and used-up to do it anymore, but boy, did I love to climb those hills and fly sideways around curves when I was in my twenties. Oh, and popping wheelies, yeah buddy! Now I have trouble just getting my streetbike out of the garage.
