Corporate Sector

A Poem by Tony
"

I'm not sorry if this offends anyone.

"

This global warming thing,

It really just isn't so.

It's a natural cycle we go through.

That's the way it goes.

And I wouldn't give much credit,

To those who always say,

We're abusing our natural resources,

That stuff is ours to take.

Don't worry about our foreign policies,

I know it's difficult to understand.

But when we own it all outright,

You'll see that I'm the Man.

I know you are a little concerned,

about the prices of gas and food.

The game of conquest is expensive,

but ultimately, It'll all be good.

We moved your manufacturing job,

off to a foriegn land.

I know your a little angry about that,

but hey! Walmart and Cosco need a hand.

You should be proud to compromise,

your dignity and morals.

And if you'll just give me your soul

Then we can rule the world.

You should be thankful you live in America,

even though it's tough to get ahead.

But as long as give me your power and money,

I'll take until your dead.

Who am I?

ironic.. You wrote this two years ago and I am sitting here trying to find at least one thing you touched on that has changed ..For the better. Nope could not find one.
That is a sad state of affairs. This is the type of pieces I used to write about.. I have no problem calling it like it is. With all due respect , of course.

You are such a good writer. I could so see you writing a by line for a newspaper or website. yes sir, sure can..

nice cinical and bitter tone to this piece, feels like a nice solid smile with stainless steel teeth behind, and that Who am i? line at the end is the perfect final punch in the gut. the only points to poke holes in would be stanza 6 and stanza 2, the rythmn just doesnt feel as smooth to me as the other stanza's. dont know what you could do about it and is probably just a personal nit-pick :P i do really like the "soap box" feel to this piece, and i also think you could write a really nice sequal to it, especially since you say its two years old and theres no difference, and your writting improvements would shine out nicely doing a second piece :P just an idea.
thanks for sharing!

As I read this, I felt my anger grow. I am tired of the corporations taking all our resources and all the things you described. Your writing is right on, things are not getting better. Time for a revolution.

According to that old song by Traffic, "John Barleycorn" personifies Beer, and though no such convenient name has been given to corporate greed, I suspect that very b*****d might be the one of whom you speak. Of course said b*****d has more than one face, but that one is probably the most obvious.

Who am I? Maybe our concience? Maybe apathy? Your short peom tells what's really happening in America. Most of our government is corrupt and it's so easy to put the blame on them for the way things are. The american people are the problem, unlike other countries we the people are the government but we have dropped the ball, missed the point, but we have not dodged the bullet. It is our government, misused because we allowed it and are allowing it by our apathy, permissiveness, and general feelings of unaccountability. I liked that you said these terrible truths in a way that we all can understand and even enjoy reading. So I say, concerning your poem, "Wake up America." Keep up the good work, Tony!

This is a really strong poem. I'm not usually one for political poems, but this one worked for me. Even though I don't live in the US I can still relate to this being English. I think many people with an awareness of their government and capitalism will feel the same way. I don't really see how this could offend anyone, unless the subject of the poem is reading, but I'm sure it would go right over their head. Good work. NH

this poem is quite good. i hate those who go and take from the poor and the common folk. then, with all the abuse and inconsiderate violence people are doing to this planet, no wonder the world will end one day. we humans are'nt seeing what harm we are doing to this earth. it's so saddening that my grandchildren or their grandchildren or maybe my children wont really be able to fully appriciate the beauty this earth has within it's natural envoronment because humans of today are killing it all. great poem. it has a lot of subjects that can stir emotions within all who read it. great work.

The narrator sounds like Bush to me( I'm assuming that's who you were going for). In that case, I think it's pretty hilarious.

I'm not the least bit offended. I think most people are beginning to realize that we are on our way to becoming a third world nation, one family at a time.
Nicely done.
