Lady Bergerac

Lady Bergerac

A Poem by John Stussy
"

To the good Lady Bergerac, wherever she may be.

"

Strong young woman she is,
Forever standing proud and tall.
Battle-hardened warrior of right,
I am no worthy bard to her deeds.

But, let it be known by all,
Your respect she'll gain
For it's well-deserved.
She has endured her share of pain.

The scars from her previous romance
Glare as a testimony for her heart;
No mere mortal man is capable
Nor worthy to scale her heart's walls.

Her love belongs to no pretty boy,
Covered-in-frills Prince Charming.
A legend from Bergerac alone is able
To hold this beauty in love's embrace.

Even the craftiest of midnight thieves
Would be unable to steal her heart,
The crime is punishable by sword
In the hand of Cyrano, drawing blood.

No, only this beautiful lass
Is worthy of the title Lady Bergerac.
Were that the legend lived and breathed,
I'd die a happy poet in knowing:

Her heart will get the truest romance
That she rightfully deserves.

This is a beautiful poem. Very neoclassical. It has some element of sadness, yes, but it also contains a strong essence of hope and patience. Its very romantic and yet a very different caliber of romance to what is normally written on here. A very amazing piece, professional, powerful and potent. Thanks for sharing!

Wonderfully done... a look at a woman who knows what she wants and what she is worth of, that is a woman of character and strength.

Awwww, Another cyrano fan!!
This is touching and actually quite lovely, honest and the pure unashamed sentiments are articulated perfectly!! This touched me deeply, you write so emphatically! Let me see.... AHA!

"Her love belongs to no pretty boy,
Covered-in-frills Prince Charming.
A legend from Bergerac alone is able
To hold this beauty in love's embrace."

That is the line to express it all. Every girl wants a Cyrano to love, be it man or script.
I can't say enough, but I've said enough to sound effusive. lovely, lovely work!~P

Such an emotional and sad write but very well written I pratically like this stanza

"Even the craftiest of midnight thieves
Would be unable to steal her heart,
The crime is punishable by sword
In the hand of Cyrano, drawing blood."

This is very well expressed and very well written...Kim
