Alive But Almost Broken

Alive But Almost Broken

A Poem by John Stussy
"

Yes, it's a song, yes, I plan on writing music for it, NO, I will not be singing it.

"

(just singer, softly)

I’m alive in this world,

Alive but close to broken,

Under the sweetest nights

I’ve been on my own.

Everything shook beneath me,

I fell to my knees now humble.

Alive, but so close to broken

Until you show me how to live.

(piano intro, joined by soft drums and guitar)

These memories are killing me,

Cold and unfeeling fingers

Suffocate me so slowly,

But here I lie under the moon.

I’m looking up into the heavens,

Wanting answers to my questions.

Nobody answers my calls and so

I’m stuck here knowing…

I’m alive in this world,

Alive but close to broken,

Under the sweetest nights

I’ve been on my own.

Everything shook beneath me,

I fell to my knees now humble.

Alive, but so close to broken

Until you show me how to live.

This six foot hole, well, it’s so dark,

Swallowed me still breathing

And it started filling,

I’m doing my best to climb out.

Yeah, there’s still life within me,

But it’s almost gone so hear my plea.

Can’t fight for too long you know,

The knowledge is so haunting.

(guitar solo)

Give me that extra reason to live

I’m broken, gave all I’ve got to give

Please come show me

I can be alive.

I’m alive in this world,

Alive but close to broken,

Under the sweetest nights

I’ve been on my own.

Everything shook beneath me,

I fell to my knees now humble.

Alive, but so close to broken

Until you show me how to live.

you are a gifted writer, but your lyrics ...man your lyrics blow me away.
you must put this to music; i would love to hear it
the lyrics are so beautiful; i can almost hear the music when i read them
we have all been here sad to say; lost and alone not knowing where to turn; which direction will lead us down the right path; we seek the answers - finding silence....sill we wait with hope remaining alive. excellent write.

Wow, you're a very passionate song writer, it blows me away.

I can relate and touch this pain, that's how real it feels to me.

It frightens me, but in a very good way.

It makes me want to show you there's alot to life, that's worth living for.

Keep up the good work! =]

Very well written, you have a talent with words. The flow is beautiful and I could see this being set to music. The concept is a very good one, and I feel that most people have felt this way at some point (or at least I'd like to think so...I have).

'Alive, but so close to broken
Until you show me how to live'

These two lines are probably my favourites, for there is so much that can be said with them. They're a pasionate plea, a romantic hope and desire. 'Alive, but so close to broken, Until you show me how to live.' 'You' is key to this, for it signifies that there is one person...just one...who can give you life, who can raise you up, who can make you live like you are truly alive, not just exist like the medical definiton of the word.

This piece, to me, is about completion, and how we are not whole until we are in love and with that someone we love. There's the longing, the desire, and there's the need. Perhaps the love is unrequited, and this is a lover's desperate plea for there to be a change of heart, this piece could work in that manner, but the overall idea that really stuck me is the need to be complete to be alive.

Bravi.

thanks for putting words to the thoughts many of us have experienced along our way... so kind of you to include those of us awaiting for the call and the offer of a hand to help us along the way.

What a fabulous expression of the thoughts within!!

So beautiful and bittersweet. A magnificent song that moves slow and steady as it rests on the edge of being...

Great description. I like this. Having gone through to a couple of times, I get the feeling that the personhere is NOT almost broken. he is broken.

Would the title sound more apt if you call it 'Alive But Broken'

Please come show me

I can be alive.

For a while, I used to think that way to. I thought I needed someone to show me to live again. Maybe I still do. But there is no one. So I'm trying to find out by myself.

'I'm doing my best to climb out.' will show you how to live.

Good one, John.

Improperly closed fissure, "close to broken" these lyrics made me want to hug something to make the pain go away, honestly, this song speaks to the hidden desire to survive every blow, and I really liked the heartfelt plea
"I fell to my knees, now humble,
Alive, but so close to broken,
Until you show me how to live."
Beauty in every line. CAN"T wait to hear it set to music!! Lovely, simply lovely.

Barely making it through the day, not quite alive and not quite dead; existing but so close to falling away. The desire for answers calls forth, but it is only answered by the silence - the lonely silence. Memories tear and claw, threatening to shatter that last resolve. Fighting on, seeing that ledge - that edge of finality; not having the strength to do it alone - asking for that helping hand. Yes, many have felt this way and many still feel this way. Haunting lyrics, hoping for a reply... well done.
