Timberwolf HeartA Poem by John StussyNot sure where this one came from, but I'm glad it came to me!
My heart has been like a timberwolf, Desiring to howl to the glis'ning moon Of the emotions overflowing within And allowing the swift autumn gale To tell you its every sentiment.
Alas, I've kept this wolf captive, Putting on it a steel collar Attached to an iron chain, No further steps can my heart take With unchewable bonds holding.
The timberwolf's cry is silenced, No listener could hear its call; A muzzle clenches strong jaws shut So naught but a whimper is sounded, Not loud enough to leave my bedside.
'Tis a cruel crime to hold it thus, A being known for its free spirit. But hold it willingly I must For fear its howl brings me scorn. I'll chance the wolf's pained anger.
My heart is like a timberwolf, One held captive and silent, A free spirit dying.... slowly. © 2008 John StussyAuthor's Note
