The Genius Madman

The Genius Madman

A Poem by John Stussy
"

The Joker's character got me thinking. I honestly think he was a genius, a hero of sorts, before he became a villain. The finding of certain secrets can corrupt a person, even drive them completely mad...

"

Tired and exhausted

My body demands rest.

Aching muscles throb

And my heart pounds in my chest

Sleepless dreams come plaguing me,

When all I want is dreamless sleep.

Alternate realities

Play out in my mentality.

Can barely move

And my strength is gone

So why the hell

Will sleep not come?

It must be because…

My thoughts

          ZIP

                   ZING

                             BOING

                   PING

All around inside my head.

I contemplate insanity,

The depths of man’s mentality,

The lengths of our humanity

Before we reach animosity.

We could kill,

Each normal person

Has the ability

To end a life.

But here we stand

Under our rules

Trying to protect

Ourselves from us.

What if someone broke the rules,

What if someone didn’t care?

What if a genius lost his mind

And did what no philosopher would dare?

He could manipulate our minds,

Use his experiments to toy with us.

His pastime, his passion is bleak,

Twisted in its total chaos.

But this man did what he did

Knowing he’d be hated.

The genius, not the madman,

Should he not be commended?

He had the courage to take the chance,

To test his theories of man’s advance.

Can we blame him for his fall,

When he saw right through

The falseness of it all?

Well, they always tell me there isn't much difference between the two right before they give me my pills. I like the questions you put forth here. They are ones I have contemplated for many years. Great write. Love the way you twisted and changed it in the middle. Oh, I think "pastimes" is actually spelled "pasttimes". Will have to check on it. Good write.

The Joker is a make-believe, non-existent comic book and movie character. The movie was great--perhaps the best Batman movie ever, but was a work of fantasy---lightyears from reality. Analyzing the joker's character is a worthless endeavor because it, like him, is non-existent. It's not my intention to be mean. I'm just telling you what I honestly think.

i am completely in love with the character called joker. one of my favorite parts of the movie was when he burned his half of the money. He truly didn't care for it, and even though he liked people killing other people, and killing people himself, he had a sort of glamour and originality that it rarely seen.

hmmm... interesting points, here... im not completely sure if he is a madman, or a genious. i doubt he was just one - either way i believe he was both. a genious, driven insane by the unstable nature of a philosopher's mind. anyone who has the bravery and self-assurance to think in the mindset of philosophy could drive himself mad at any moment. its almost like a blind chemist - one wrong move, one wrong chemical mistake, and every piece of sanity he possesses could be riped apart. i think he is a genious driven mad by his own genious. still, all the while he IS still a genious. so i believe he's both.

amazing work! loved the colors; they add a hint of strange-ness to the words. and the onomotopoaeia sounds like the thoughts of a true madman. nicely done!

Genius or sociopath.

I think you are right, the ones who are most deviant have the mind to contemplate it all.

Think of the many mass murderers that are never caught or only caught because they want it to stop.

Well done, summing up the human existence.

Do I live withing the boundries of acceptable society or do I stray?

Do I stray and live according to my own rules?

Well done!!
