Moondance

Moondance

A Poem by John Stussy
"

I love my sax

"

I walked about around midnight,

Out on the glowing streets.

My saxophone openly called to me

Begging for me to play.

The softness of the wind

Made me take up my horn,

And under glowing moonbeams

My notes sprang forth.

I hid my case under a bush

And proceeded on my way.

I wandered for a little while,

And found a streetlight to lean on.

Soft gentle notes came from nowhere,

And the night embraced the sound.

A few moments later, happily laughing,

Two lovers came around.

I watched them stroll

O’er yonder, to the park.

I kept playing my nonsense

And smiled at their romance.

Then a moonbeam came

And shot me through the head,

Sent chills down my spine

And planted a song in my head.

The couple embraced happily,

And my fingers began to dance,

Not the dance of mere playing

But the gentle steps of a Moondance.

Van Morrison shone forth

And as if my playing was a cue

The lovers swayed to and fro,

Letting the music take its due.

The sweet passion of their gazes

Matched my tenderness for song.

Though two lovers were in plain sight,

Four were in fact showing their love.

My connection to my instrument

Was such that we were one,

It was akin in every aspect

To the feeling of making love.

Ah, such a marvelous night to make romance

To the art that has given me life.

I accepted sweet music’s advance

And let it pull me away from my strife.

I am glad to hear of it, then, you and music have reconciled,
to sweeter notes,
no time to waste a melody which is silent beneath a moonbeam-
what great imagination you have: I could see, entirely vision this delicate sort of real life on slow projector; a stand-still, time frozen in time, as the lovers take each other's hand;
hand in hand, side by side, strife aside, no!- (cast away)
to begin to make sweet love and play,
the music of (his) heart.

BRILLIANT and lovely, passionate;
It resonates inside of every chord within me.

p.s.
The notation to Van Morrison and moonbeams and love, above all,
time moving now, no longer frozen,
deserves a standing ovation;
and I am the audience of mine own lover's heart,
and as you, dear poet, shall have one too, and do,
thank you for this-
(can you see how much I am smiling?)

This is a great write.
The comparison to the love between and person and an instrument is brilliant.
The personification of the moon beam shooting you, was really nice too..

Hunny this is beautiful! The flow is a bit jagged but the image and scene overtook that. It made my heart skip and I could vividly see what you were describing and feel a divine romance emanate through your words.
Truly wonderful hun! x
