Ahh! I do feel for you, mine are rubbish at crit too. Don't understand my work at all, Just ignore neg crit John, philistines never get us creative types! Yes you are an adult and your family will have to understand and get used to the fact that, as you so rightly state in this fine rant of your! As a known queen of rants, I can rank you!lol you also write to help you. You are a fine young man and it is not just a matter of getting over it, time and all that rubbish, it is a matter of riding that roller coaster of grief and pain from your loss. IE expressing that pain, love, loss, pure ecstacy, love, the lot. I know that ride so well, I am sure your relatives feel it too but they are much much older and more experienced and NOT in you and your siblings situation. Poetry is poetry and censorship is useless. Well done. Keep writing. Smiling at you, Tai x
I have lots of those...the well-known nosy relatives, who will be honored to tell you what to do, how to do it, and when to do it if you're parents are not around. Digsusting s**t, I could clearly feel your anger. Nice riot! Keep it up.
Great write... keep at it and don't let "them" get in your head. I can't stand the religious right trying to set moral standards for everyone. I'm reminded of Megadeth's song "Hook in Mouth", it's about censorship and the PMRC. Great song with great lyrics, check it out if your not familiar with it, but I see you're a music junkie like me, so you've probably heard it.
It was the title of your piece that made me stop and read it. I figured this piece would be an angry rant at relatives or a tale of incest. Glad it was the former!!!
Oh I can remember this one and I can remember loving it just as much as I did now. So let me start off by saying thank you for submitting and giving me the opportunity to read this again.
John as always you stay true to yourself and your style, whether you are ranting or just writing a little sweet love poem for the only one that you love. As a friend I have seen you go places with your writing, go through stages of agony to stages of sweet ecstasy.
You are truly a brilliant person in the whole sense of the word and should never end up censoring your creativity for the sake of others. You are who you are after all, no one could ever take that away from you
Great rant my friend; I am guessing you felt great after getting this out on paper specially knowing that they read this!

If your relative hasn't read this yet, it is about time they do.
Sadly I don't know the feeling. My relatives lie to my face. I really think it would surprise me if a relative told me the truth. Kudos, I wish your pain were mine.
This is classic! You definitely have to do things for yourself. I enjoyed the humor in this one and at the same time there was a small hint of anger but it didn't overpower the comedy. Good stuff. Oh, relatives...
I completely agree with your rant. I agree that since you're the one who's writing your poems, you could write about anything you want- no matter how controversial the topic may be. However, unlike you, I normally hate when relatives read my work because I know that the majority aren't telling the truth. Like, for instance, when I already know that a certain poem of mine needs work and a relative reads it saying it's good, it pisses me off that they're not telling the truth! I rather want them to be brutally honest with me and give me suggestions than sugarcoat everything, therefore not leaving any room for improvement!
Anyways, I think that this is a good rant that I can relate to. Even though relatives should be honest and give suggestions to improve, they should also encourage you- not discourage and tell you that your work sucks.
Yes. Yes. Yes. I agree 100%. I write for myself also, and if other people can relate and make sense of it good, but if someone doesn't like it and puts it down (not including if someone gives advice or opinions) then they can go eff themselves. I agree with you about everything you wrote, who is to judge? No one, but us. Love it, very powerful too. I felt you.

My site's link is to some recordings of my poetry, and I might add some recordings of me playing my sax onto there too... more..
