Purpose

Purpose

A Poem by John Stussy
"

Just something new. As I write this statement, the piece is unwritten. I'm just going to let thoughts flow and see where it goes, been inspired to do so by another writer on here.

"
Blessed, beautiful wakefulness!
Stagnation turns to hopefulness!
Options have burst
Wide open like curtains;
Sunshine burning,
Daytime flashing!
Once again I sacrifice
Hours of life for currency,
Though not for corporations' gain
But for personal advancement.
I've wasted weeks in wanton wanting,
In passivity and torpidity,
Shedding seconds for gain of naught
Whilst mind and body turned to rot.

Poised, positive optimism!
O living birth of pragmatism!
Toil is endorsed
In exchange for promotion.
Stasis shattered,
Body's tattered!
Muscles ache from lengthy hours
Bent o'er my station.
Eyes set on the further prize
Available at cost of strain.
Insomnia still comes a-creeping
But stubborn body I am training,
Planning for a future ahead
And hoping I am not misled.

I so understand the feeling behind this one, my friend. Sometimes you wonder just what it is you are working so hard for. What are we sacrificing for, is it worth it? That is something you will find the answer to in your heart. Make sure to remember to work hard and play hard as well. Don't sacrifice your creativity either. Find a balance, like in all things in life. So good to be reading you again!!

Once the light dawns there is no turning back; only a a dull plodding as we become aware that the false god of avarice is simply that.

We waste the years, not the weeks in wanton wanting, and all for what?

I turned my back a decade ago and don't regret the decision for a moment.

Such a powerful write.

Beccy.

I like the vigour and awareness of this one. I esp like 'Wanton wanting', nice touch that. There is wisdom in this as well an an active creativity.

Awesome! Loved this one. I believe it holds true for many of us. Some places have six-hour work days instead of eight. I do not, however, live in such a place...

My oh my John necessity and ordinance are strong things. Sometimes we just have to do what we have to do, and granted I feel the "I am only doing it to get from A to B" sure I agree. Having worked in IT for quite a number of years you can't imagine the ridiculous requests we get and on top it takes hours. The astounding thing though is when you point out to transformation even in them times of absurdity you find yourself wondering for hope. Hard work and little sleep .

They say nothing gets wasted in this life.

Thankyou
