God made the universe on Rock and Roll.

"

This is true:

God made the universe on Rock and Roll.

It is a difficult truth to come to terms with; mostly because the best and the brightest spend their time looking for the ultimate answer. They spend their careers with their eyes wide open, drying out their corneas with computer monitors and chalk dust. The scientists spent their time tinkering away with math and theoretical physics, trying to solve for x and wondering about the incredible synchronization in the chaos of the cosmos. They are missing it.

The truth is that musicians are closer to finding the ultimate answer. String theorists weren't so far off, because at least they called the universe a "symphony", but they were still using their eyes despite the ears on their heads.

The Rolling Stones were so close that they accidentally transcended time a little bit and pulled themselves partially out of the fourth dimension. That's why Keith Richards is still kicking. Being half out of time, he's aging half as fast as we are. Not that he has any clue of course, because, transcendent or not, drugs do a nasty job on the objectivity of the human psyche.

The thing about Rock and Roll is that we hear it differently through the ages. Because humans are so objective and we know things in relation to ourselves, we've followed the same beat for thousands of years without ever knowing it was the same. Mozart and Metallica would sound exactly alike if you could manage to separate yourself from your human ego for a moment. That big burdensome component that makes you feel unique.

So God was rocking out to AC/DC long before a group of talented, but ugly men got together and stole the phrase from two competing scientists. Long before Tesla rocked out to DC and Edison to AC. Long before Newton dropped his apple. Long before men started to beat heavy sticks against the hollow trunks of trees to hear the satisfying "thump, thump" of the universal beat and yell along with it.

And then there are the philosophers, who are neither here nor there. Who don't listen with their ears or see with their eyes. Who ask questions like: "Did Rock and Roll make God or did God make Rock and Roll?" Who have many brilliant insights and understand many truths the rest of us are too busy to seek out, but who miss the point:

It doesn't matter.

Just shut up and listen.

I'm calling this fiction because I'm not sure what else to call it. In my mind the narrator is a character, which makes this piece more complicated than a simple essay to me.

Wow what a refreshing piece. And an excellent title to boot. I think it was very very well written. The philosophy in it says much more, everytime you read it. I am guessing you must be a fan of music to dream of such an epiphany.
Great job =]
