Release

A Poem by Olando Lucas

Release

The pressure is mounting here in this place.

The power that is within me is pushing hard to be released.

I ask myself questions, like is God really calling me? Or Am I a psychotic man with nowhere to run?

All I want is to live in peace, but I guess peace is not within my grasp because I will never be submissive to racist hypocrisies.

So I know now that I must stand up and fight these self-made gods, not with my fist, gun, or knife.

My weapon is powerful; it is manufactured deep within my soul.

It is a weapon that only I can hold, so I keep it cocked and loaded with one in the chamber.

I keep it tucked away with the safety button on release, ready to be sprayed at any man, hypocrite, or beast.  At anything that threatens to underestimate my intelligence or my outer beauty.

My black beauty, the beautiful life God has given me to live. The beautiful blackness that is buried deep within my soul is all I have to give.

So I say if they choose to attack me, let the earth shake up to the heavens, let God hear their screams of despair.

Because my weapon is my mind, heart, and soul, so when I let the Blessings from my God go, only the people of God will know.
