Those Years Ago

Those Years Ago

A Poem by Stephanie

You rolled back the sunroof to feel the hot summer breeze
Smelling the sweet scent of fresh air as we left city lights
The starry night sky, so beautiful
You would grasp my hand as we were driving so fast
Kiss me softly as we drove through the countryside
We were singing loud to the stereo
Oh, here’s our favorite song…..
We can lose ourselves once again, sing with me
Oh doesn’t this remind you of how it used to be….all those years ago
I loved you, and you loved me

This isn’t the way I wanted it
This isn’t the way I wanted to live my life
Crying at night with the phone by my side
Wishing you would call me just one more time
Cause I’m too scared to go running back to you
Oh how I wish I could tell you…..
I miss you, I love you
I miss you, I love you

You rolled down the window to feel the cold winter breeze
It was raining so hard and we couldn’t see
It was cloudy and dark, yet still so beautiful
We parked the car in some old dirt lot
Turned up the stereo and started singing along
Wanting to open the door and run out in the rain
Just thinking of how you would chase after me
Oh here’s to old times…..
We can lose ourselves once again, come after me
Oh doesn’t this remind you of how it used to be…..all those years ago
I loved you and you loved me

This isn’t the way I wanted it
This isn’t the way I wanted to live my life
Crying at night with the phone by my side
Wishing you would call me just one more time
Cause I’m too scared to go running back to you
Oh how I wish I could tell you…..
I miss you, I love you
I miss you, I love you

You rolled back the door to feel the crisp fall breeze
Feeling the air as it hit you and me
You held me tight and whispered tenderly in my ear
It was near dusk the sun was nearly obscured by the horizon
The sunset was vibrant; so beautiful
We sat outside for hours under the bright full moon
Talking about nothing
But to us it was something
Oh here comes the sun….
We can lose ourselves once again, lay here with me
Oh doesn’t this remind you of how it use
d to be…..all those years ago

I loved you and you loved me

This isn’t the way I wanted it
This isn’t the way I wanted to live my life
Crying at night with the phone by my side
Wishing you would call me just one more time
Cause I’m too scared to go running back to you
Oh how I wish I could tell you….
I miss you, I love you
I miss you, I love you

Author's Note

Stephanie
This is about someone reminiscing about a past relationship that they aren't over yet. The seasons go from summer, to winter, to fall, so the relationship lasted at least 13-14 months. The way it's written indicates that they were around 18 at the time. The chorus makes it very clear the person writing is still in love with their ex, and wants them back.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Note: sorry about the black background, the site I originally posted it on is like that, and I don't know how to get rid of it.
