Washed Up

Washed Up

A Poem by Stephanie

We get around town every night
But I can’t lift you over the waves
You’re too heavy for my heart to carry you away
Use me to rise above the surface; push me down because I can take the abuse
I am sick of the rainy weather, it consumes my world
Better to just stay below; I will never feel the rain again
When you have never even tasted one drop of rain
Feeling my damp eyes start to dry
As my arms give out

Come up to me while you’re vulnerable
Spill your little heart out; let your tears flow down
Let me take a slight dose of “good mood” and shoot it through your veins
When you start to fade away, fall away from me
I’ll buy a one way ticket
To follow you into your nightmare

Exhale the stress; let it seep out your body
Cheer up and let me hold you close
Don’t let the high tide take you away
Smash your broken body up against the cliffs
A popular way to go out alone
Your aura is colorless, I’m losing you now
Fading out in the fog, you can’t see a thing
Yet I can see you perfectly; the light is gone

Come up to me while you’re vulnerable
Spill your little heart out; let your tears flow down
Let me take a slight dose of “good mood” and shoot it through your veins
When you start to fade away, fall away from me
I’ll buy a one way ticket
To follow you into your nightmare

You’re falling away, towards the ocean air
Leaning back, you close your eyes, and start falling from the sky
A gruesome way to leave me alone, facing the temptation
I close my eyes, I’m bleeding for you
You’re gone, you’re gone
I let you fall, I let you die
I let you fall, I let you die

Come up to me while you’re vulnerable
Spill your little heart out; let your tears flow down
Let me take a slight dose of “good mood” and shoot it through your veins
When you start to fade away, fall away from me
I’ll buy a one way ticket

To follow you into your nightmare

Author's Note

Stephanie
This describes someone's failed attempts and strenuous efforts to save someone they love from suicide. The ocean setting is a metaphor for the feelings of the person trying to save their loved one. As it progresses, you realize that their loved one has died, first mentally and emotionally, then physically. The chorus describes the entire story in six lines, someone trying to save someone they love, failing, then following in their footsteps.

Any feedback is appreciated.
