Destroyer of Souls

You suck the blood of mortals

just because you can.

You take delight inflicting pain

upon the common man.

You call this task an art-form,

simply something you accrue,

you do not care what hurt you cause,

it’s just something that you do.

And when you hear sweet poets crying

as you burn their souls in hell

you simply smile because you know

you do it oh so well!

But the truth upon these pages,

in the ink of Angel’s tears,

will drive you back to Hades

till the final judgement nears.

Nicely done. Good rhyme structure, fairly consistent meter and your usual vivid images. I enjoyed the eventual triumph of poetry even if the poet is destroyed.

Fascinating. I am a Christian by faith but I really try not to superimpose my belief system over a piece of writing simply because their are so many writers of different faiths here at the cafe and I would never want to offend. But sometimes its inevitable as in this poem. It made me think about writers and poets and artists in general. Because we feel so intensely - I wonder if that makes us targets? I think it does. I think that drive to create something of light puts a big bullesye on our foreheads. Its just my random thought
