SparkA Poem by Jeanie.JSitting awkward, standing still In the valley or the hills Above, below, I'm feeling ill For I know who's coming round I hear the footsteps, I know that sound When we met I felt the spark The one that leads you through the dark The one that many speak of But have never truely had The flame that used to burn so pure Had not once seemed to be unsure A never ending game of tag Running, chasing what we can't have The day you turned my world around Made my day a leap- no, bound Whenever I would see your face I forgot the reason, time and place Nothing mattered but your smile But you'd only stay a little while I always knew you'd have to go Always come but never stay Our bond between us fades away Our perfect world turned bitter, sour Dull and tasteless like my scour And now I sit alone and cower Wondering how we could've been You and me forevermore You'd never leave, you'd always stay And any time I looked your way You wouldn't pretend what we had was fake Just close friendship, nothing more But it's clear as the rattle on a rattlesnake That what we had could scrape us raw Of what we thought we had before Because now the flame is burning low Somewhere way deep down below Waiting for a chilly night To come set our love alight. © 2017 Jeanie.JFeatured Review
