The Captain Calls

The Captain Calls

A Poem by Sarah
"

Dedicated to my fellow pirate, Bragg. Keep sailing, my friend!

"

The Captain Calls

The eastern storms a-gathern’

The boy’s are bailin’ fast

The captain’s standin’ leeward

And the winds a-rippin’ past

“Hold fast, me lads!” the captain calls

“Better days ahead!

For a pirates life is the only life

for a man that’s courage bred!

“Heave way the sea anchor!

Get us a-goin’ fast

Take in, turn too, me hearties

‘Cause we are goin’ to last!”

The Anchor Watch, the Bosun’s Mate

The Helmsman and the Master

All look out for signs of hope

As the ship picks up faster

The wind was now at fifty knots

But the storm would soon surpass

The horizon showed a bright red beam

And the crew was safe at last!

“Hold fast, me lads!” the captain calls

“Better days ahead!

For a pirates life is the only life

For a man that’s courage bred!”

“Heave way the sea anchor!

Get us a-goin’ fast

Take in, turn too, me hearties

‘Cause we are goin’ to last!”

This poem is very fun and has a nice sounding rhyme scheme. I like the combination of dialogue and narration, it brings the reader in and out of the minds of the pirates. You have a nice flow with your words and that can only get better. Good luck in the future. Thanks.

Thanks for dedicating this to me! I will never be able to speak like pirates or learn naval comments. So that's why I know you...JK. Thanks again! This poem was awesome!

Being an old retired sailor, I'm a sucker for a sea-farin' tale. Thanks for the fun ride.

I love this poem! My cousin and I have been on a pirate kick for ages now. I am adding this to my reading list. I like your choice of words and the refrain (if that is what you call it) Very well done! Thanks for sharing!
