The Deep Night

The Deep Night

A Poem by Sarah
"

Co Written with my friend Meredith!

"

In the deep dark night

While the fire grew brighter

I fell fast asleep

And in a dream he came to me

Death came silently

He stood tall and dark

His ash "like eyes stared into my soul

He knew my pain, he knew my fear

When he spoke I felt a chill in my spine

His voice, first like grinding rocks

Soon smoothed to sleek satin

It strangely soothed my soul

“Child of light and man of darkness,

I have come to offer you peace.

I have heard your heart and it screams.

Lonesome, lost one I am here to rescue you.”

My soul longed to follow him,

But why would one choose to die?

Was he telling me to come?

Or was he asking?

“I see the fear in your eyes,

You do not wish to follow me

But be brave like those who before you came

Willing and ready to pursue the end.”

As he spoke, images of people

Whom I had never met before

Flooded my vision and spoke to my heart,

They whispered softly of peace.

And so, it was then I decided

To follow them into the light.

Death offered me his hand

I gave way, I took it.

Into the deep dark night

As the fires flames faded

I awoke for the last time

Never to dream again.
