It, hurts to breathe. With every breath comes a searing pain, as if being cooked from the inside. Voices interrupt the blackness that consumed my mind. They sound, familiar.
"D****t!" I recognized this voice as Melissa's. But, it was rhaspy. "He's getting away!" She began to sputter uncontrollably.
Rapid footsteps echoed through my mind. What's going on? Suddenly all the heat, all the pain, all the sorrow, and anger filled my tired body. It was unbearable. I did my best to clear my blackened vision to make sense of what was happening. Fading in and out of consciousness, raging flames surrounded me and engulfed the mine, catching fire to support beams, and anything else it could wrap itself around. Looking around, I notice a woman with long curly red hair, fighting to stable herself, sputtering and coughing unwillingly. A black shadow caught my eye. Turning my attention to it, I see Xavier with his pure white feathered hair darting down the flaming and collapsing mining shaft.
Xavier's voice rang through my ears. "You coward!" He bellowed, but a distinct rattle surfaced throughout his voice. "How dare you run from your enemy!" Sheer hatred and sorrow had consumed him at this point. I knew he was out for blood. "I'll make you pay for hurting her!" He bellowed again. I noticed he was chasing a dark figure down the corridore, and suddenly, that black figure became painfully familiar to me.
Hurting her? What does he mean? Suddenly, it became clear to me where I was in all of this chaos. I was lying in the dirt, my hand at my side. A splitting pain spread through my entire torso. I coughed and sputtered lifting my heavy hand infront of my face. Blood. So much blood coating my entire hand and down my arm. Fear filled my mind. Looking away from my bloodied hand, I looked to Melissa. The woman who just a moment ago was fighting to stay on her own two feet, was now in the dirt as well, sweat dripped from her stained skin, one of my closest friends in years was just lying there, motionless, lifeless. My mind began to fail me once again. Slowly, I began to slip away from reality. All of the sudden I felt no pain, no anger, no sadness, even the searing heat from the inferno that surrounded me had vanished. Everything was peaceful, and pitch black.
Is this it? Is this how I die today? Is this the end? Oh God, save my soul. Grant me a place by your side.
Thud. Thud. What is it now? Please, just let it be over. I don't want to go back to that mine. Thud. Thud. Please, please go away, just let me rest, I'm so tired. Thud. Thud. Smash.
Who in their right mind would want to bring me back only to suffer? Multiple voices echoed in my mind, but I couldn't make them out. The clunk of boots neared me, drawing my interest. Opening my eyes, I could see a pair of black combat boots, followed by the voice of a familiar man.
"We're going to get you guys out of here Victoria!" He shouted over all the other urgent voices. "You're going to be alright!" I could feel myself being lifted. But I couldn't fight my heavy eyes anymore. Slowly, my eyes closed, and everything was gone again. Complete... and utter... silence.

CHAPTER ONE: COLD SWEATS.

There I sat, on an empty beach with only the seagulls to keep me company. The wind played lightly with my short brunette hair, and my white baggy t-shirt. Looking around me I could see the small baby waves crashing against the shore, fading into a fine mist that spread lightly upon my pale skin.
