Carbon CopiesA Poem by StormeLightYou shoot me with conformity You turned it all against me You could have been yourself But no one would hear Your cries for help You became this carbon copy Everything everyone expects you to be How much do you love yourself now? You became this carbon copy Can the approval keep you feeling safe? There is a restlessness in your soul That you shove away Every night that you lie awake Staring at your distractions Hoping it will give you traction Who can duplicate your carbon copy now? Who can show you the way out? No one You surround yourself With other carbon copies So no one will show you Just how unoriginal you've become Now you are a carbon copy Ever so slowly unraveling Everyone is pulling the thread Deep inside this fills you with dread Locked inside your own head With no one to truly understand you Carbon copy, are you a zombie now? Who can wake you up from your deep sleep? Awake Awake Please Awake Awake Please Your soul is crying from inside of you Begging you for purpose Begging you to see Begging you to have courage A courage you have never Let yourself know You gave up too soon You let yourself drown Beneath the surface Beneath the surface Carbon copy, Where are you? Who are you? Take a knife to your facade Before every original part of you Is just gone
