A Little Girl Prays

A Little Girl Prays

A Poem by KAREN

A little girl prays for her fathers safe return.

In the morning a little girl prays

for a father gone to war,

hands hold memories of

him tossing her up high,

and catching her in the saftey

of his arms.

His laughter echoes

the room,

and she wonders

is he praying too?

Tears are mirror images

of his face,

and

she prays for his safe return.

In the afternoon hours a little girl prays,

trying to drown out

the silence

of his empty chair.

Fear gathers like dust,

and

voices from the news

leaves  her yearning for

his butterfly kisses,

and

the warmth of a family

reunited.

In the evening hours a little girl prays

as she listens to her Mother's

crying in the next room.

War lives in the house and hearts

of two people

where peace once resided.

A little girl lays her head

down on a pillow of dreams,

and

prays for a father's

safe return.

This is real life, there are hurting people everywhere. I think you painted the canvas of our pain well.

Thank you!
You've penned such a moving tale of a lost soldier's little girl longing for his return, showing the beauty that once was and the barrenness and heartbreak which war brings, very well penned moving piece.

you're welcome :)
I wish it was not a prayer of so many of our little girls. Great poem and heart breaking. We will all be praying.

Thank you for the review!
War consumes all and creates oceans of tears. May little girls have need to pray only for snow or a pony to ride.

Beautiful work. This is a sign of the times.
An honestly touching emotional experience.

I don't know what to say. It was beautiful. Sad, but beautiful. You captured the feelings of the little girl perfectly. It almost made me want to cry. Perhaps, if I weren't so happy for other reasons, I would cry.

That is a sweet tribute to soldiers away from home, and their children's dreams and fears.
