Clever Little Trick

Clever Little Trick

A Poem by KAREN
"

For the creative poetry group. A conversation between a woman and a vampire at a cafe during the midnight hour.

"

Cold rain falls in sheets

as lightning lights up the sky.

Thunder makes itself known,

roaring all around her.

Darkness was as thick

as the fog that rose from the ground.

Her eyes scans the alley

Breath catches in her throat.

A man dressed in black approaches,

cape flapping in the wind.

He sits down beside her,

his cold hand rubs against her thigh.

"Hi, I'm Lestat de LIoncourt."

She turns her head,

knowing who he is,

and his intentions.

"The bus is not coming."

She could feel his breath on her cheek.

An errie feeling creeps upon her.

Fear as strong as the beating of her

heart pluses through every vein.

"Are you sure the bus isn't coming?"

Her voice didn't sound like her own.

"Yes, the weather is too bad."

Hunger for her blood becomes

unbareable as her flesh smells

like a desireable treat to his nose.

"How about some coffee?"

In the distances bells chime.

The midnight hour has arrived.

She knew she had to play her cards right.

Time will be her way out.

She puts her hand in his.

"Sure."

They head to the cafe across the street.

"Coffee for the lady," he says.

"How about you?"

He trails his finger down his jaw.

"No, coffee keeps me awake."

He stares at her neck,

can almost feel his fangs sink in.

"How about a donut?"

"No, I'm going to have something

more savory later on."

His stomach growls.

Sweat pours from his brow.

He licks his lips and slides

closer to her side.

She glances at her watch

A few hours have passed,

but she still needs a little time.

"What brings you out in this storm?"

"I love the rain and I work at night."

She bats her long lashes,

licks her ruby lips.

She pulls the mirror from her bag

to check her hair,

seeing the rosary she knocks

it out onto his open hand.

"Ouch!"

She looks at him in horror,

yet laughter threatens to come.

"Are you alright?"

"Uh, Yeah, just bit my tonuge."

Anger burns his face.

He grabs her in a tight embrace.

"She could no longer hear the rain.

A glimmer of light shines through.

Time has paid off.

"Let's go to your place and

you can have every drop of me."

They walk arm in arm.

She opens the door,

sneering at him as

the sunshine floods in.

"No!"  He yells, throwing his hands up.

She watches as Lestat de Lioncourt

blazes into an everlasting death.

This reminds me of a lovely enchanted lore spun to entertain a hungry crowd. Actually scratch that idea. ^^* It was simply delightful and a pleasure to read. There were many highlights to it and it truly is remarkable.
