Army Wife

Army Wife

A Poem by KAREN
"

Being a soliders wife! (For the creative poetry group.)

"

She lays in their king size bed,

satin sheets cover her aching body,

Face buried into his pillow

where his head use to lay.

A picture of him she clutches in her hand.

Memories of him boarding the plane

in his solider uniform shadow

her like it was yesterday.

Pain so deep, it's like a boomerang

coming back griping her.

Suicide bombers nauseate her.

Eyes are glazed over from the pictures

of soliders that didn't make it.

Ears are ringing from the bad news

she hears every night on the tv.

When will he come home?

Perilous times are knocking at his door.

She fears for his life.

A life vest she longs to clothe him in

along with her embrace.

He vows to make her proud,

never regret the recant to fight for his country.

He promised to come home to her.

But when?

She remembers the sweetness

of the navel oranges he ate,

the taste still lingers on her lips.

The feel of him inside of her

never goes away, moisture she

feels between her legs.

Tick tock of the clock plays

the melody of their song.

Her kindred tell her to stay strong,

mind is full with what ifs.

Raspy voice cries out to the heavens above.

When will he come home?

So sadly true for too many people these days. Excellent job - sensitive and honest exploration of longing and anxiety for a loved one.

Sadly beautiful....
Tick tock of the clock plays
the melody of their song.

As the minutes pass, they dance to the moment of reunite!
I am sure many men/women can relate to these feeling of longing, and the terror of not knowing what fate awaits.

There has never been a more true story than this. It regards in my opinion every woman's agony who has someone she loves fighting in foreign regions.

Your words tell a true story. A military wife or husband have a lot to think about. War had no conscious. I like the way you told the story in the poem. The fear of surprise knock on doors and thoughts of losing someone forever is hard to take. Thank you for a excellent poem.

This is a sad poem, but the love that joins these two together is beautiful.
You've written lovely work.
