The Other Wife

The Other Wife

A Story by KAREN
"

Marriage isn't what it's made up to be!

"

The house was huge, Kayla noticed as they pulled into the drive.  Presley, her husband of two weeks now jumped out of the car and ran to the front door.  "It's good to be back!" He yelled.

Kayla, confused looked at him.  He was acting as if he had been there before.  "What do you mean?" She asked.

Presley flung open the door.  He picked Kayla up and kissed her passionately on the lips trying to take her mind off of what he had said.  It worked, she was so caught up in his kiss she forgot all about his slip of the tongue.

Once inside Presley put her down and she headed up stairs to check out the rest of the house.  The master bedroom was wonderful.  Kayla looked out the window, the view of the lake was breathtaking.  Presley came up behind her, and kayla turned and put her arms around him.  "I love you," she whispered.

He pushed her away, noticing the floor, the planks were loose.  Suddenly Presley grew nervous.  Kayla went to kiss him.  He pushed her away again.  "Not now," he snapped

     "What is wrong?" She asked.

"I've got to go into town and get supplies."  Presely stepped on the loose planks, more became loose.  "The floor needs fixing.  Come with me?"

     "No, I'll stay," Kayla pouted.

Presley jerked her toward the door.  He handled her roughly.  "Then, you will stay out of here."  He dragged her down the stairs.  He left, leaving Kayla crying.

Something was wrong.  Ever since they said their I dos things had changed.  Presley seemed agitated all the time.  He never wanted to make love since they got married, and if they did, it seemed rushed.

Kayla peered up the stairs.  She knew she shouldn't, but she found herslef walking slowly to what would be their room.  "I'm not a child," she cried.  "I'll unpack, change and make myself sexy and he will be sorry."

She walked over to the walk in closet to see how big it was.  A beautiful blue silk dress came to view.  She wondered who it belonged to.  Kayla smiled as she undressed and pulled the dress on over her head.  She felt strange, not herself.  She looked into the mirror.  She screamed as another woman appeared.  She had black hair and pale skin.

"I'm Breylnne Moore, Presley's wife.  He murdered me for my money.  You're next."

Kayla screamed again.  She turned to run, but tripped, falling on the loose planks.  The planks broke apart exposing a skeleton body.  She knew without a doubt it was Breylnne Moore.  Crying, Kayla stood and looked back in the mirror.  "Watch out!" Breylnne yelled.

Knowing Presley was behind her, Kayla picked up a plank.  Presley grabbed the board, throwing her to the floor.  He put his hands around her throat, choking her.  She couldn't breathe.  She knew she was going to be his next victim.  Then, the unusual happened, Breylnne hit Presley in the head.  Blood splattered on the blue dress.  Presley fell to the floor, dead.  Breylnne disappered, she was now at peace.

Magnificent writing.. You do have a way with these type of writes I see. The ending was something else.. I agree with Zeitgeist, twilight zone all the way.

Man...that ending came out of nowhere.
Talk about closure! I loved it.
Seemed like *Twilight Zone* material.

WOW! I was not expecting that ending. At first, I was expecting something like TLC's sisterwives, where Kayla found that she was wife number 2...I had not thought that it had to do with murder and ghosts! Fabulous! You kept me on my toes!

I'm glad she didn't die in the end and the first wife got her revenge of the Presley. Great job on this ghostly tale!
