One Table Away

One Table Away

A Poem by KAREN
"

Signs of a cheater!

"

Changes in appearance,

new wardrobe.

Hair style and color has changed.

Significant alterations you have made.

Sure-fire sign, you're cheating.

Sexual behavior is aggressive.

New odd positions,

or no sex at all.

Betrayed infidelity,

array colors of condoms.

Have you forgotten I'm on the pill?

Bold description, you're cheating.

Bank account is low.

Credit cards are maxed.

Jewelry and other clues I find.

Receipts are my confirmation,

you're cheating.

Suspicious phone calls.

Lying lipstick stains on collar,

feminine scent follows.

You have no plausible explanation.

Inevitable truth, you're cheating.

Reservation at our favorite restaurant,

but not with me.

I know with whom, you think I'm stupid?

But you will see, you filthy liar.

Kiss me this last time with your fake

kisses and words of love.

I place the blond wig on,

flowing hair past my waist.

Lips painted red, you seem to like that color.

Shades to cover my spying eyes.

I smile, knowing you're about to be busted.

Dim fluorescent lights.

Romantic music plays.

I sit down, watching.

I hear you say: "I love you."

But to her, not me.

You kiss her like you use to kiss me.

Diamond ring flashes

and nearly puts my eye out.

Anger boils inside me,

finally erupting.

I throw the wig to the floor.

I lay my shades by the empty dinner plates.

I wait for you to notice me.

Guilty eyes stare my way.

I walk over toward you, smiling.

I slap him hard across the cheek.

"No more lies," I say.

"I saw and heard everything

one table away."

You kept me to the end and I feel sorry for the girl who had the wig, but at least she found out. Above all an amazing piece, I truly enjoyed.

It had a challenging message and I liked the spirit of the woman in the poem and the vampy descriptions.. and the dramtic finale...

I like this tragic story that pulls the reader in. Very well done, could be a song itself. I'd like to know what she does with him, divorce I hope after a lot of hunting him.
