Shelter From Above

Shelter From Above

A Poem by KAREN
"

People who are looking for their refuge, their rock!

"

Canopy of sorrows,

like thick fog overpowers my soul.

I'm like a lion,

lurking, ready to attack.

Angry all the time.

Is there shelter from despair?

Pavilion of darkness,

like the dead of night surrounds my body.

Calamity, disaster, misfortune.

Is there shelter from distress?

The foundation of my life is crumbling,

falling in pieces around me.

I need directions, a map.

My compass is broken like my heart.

Is there shelter from pain?

I close my eyes,

mumbling a prayer.

A bright light glowing from above gives me strength.

I feel peace, warmth, comfort.

Is there shelter from the world?

Where?

GOD

Something I felt lead to write. Maybe someone needs to hear it. I know I find peace with him, although life is hard it's easier with him on your side. Tell me if it's good, bad, or how you feel about it!

Unfortunately disasters still happen in life. God is there to help us all. I believe we need to ask for his guidness and help. Very good piece.

I like the way everything is clearly communicated. It was good to find myself carried from stanza to stanza in a natural flow. I especially like the questions you raised and way you ended this piece. nice write.

Lovely write full of question and a longing for relief of everyday life...pains and sorrow...In God we can find peace...

Yes, I am the one who needed to hear it. Whilst in prayer today, God told me that without HIM as a foundation, we would lose ourselves completely to the pain inflicted upon us by those whom we truly love, who don't know how to love us in return. When you learn what unconditional love is, you are hurt in ways you can't imagine, just to see how true your love is. And if it endures, you have passed the test. But without God on your side, your emotional reactions have more power to destroy your spirit. Thank you so much for sharing this poem. Yes, I did need to hear it! God bless --

My Compass is broken like my heart, wow, so true when our heart has been broken, it's so hard to find direction, seems like there is no where to turn. A very powerful line. Yes God is our Shelter, our peace, our strength, warmth and comfort. When we are broken it's hard to focus to find him. I think if we always put God first everyday, we can focus on the big picture a lot quicker then if he wasn't in our lives.

Devotional narrative, right? The Q & A format reminded me a bit of some Christian 'testimonial' groups I attended as a child. Again, this is quite transparent in its offerings---more in the lines of prose than what I typically read for poetry.

There's some interesting inspiration available here; but I believe that it needs to be condensed to some significant degree.

Only my opinion, of course.
