THE SONNET - REMADE

THE SONNET - REMADE

A Poem by trista broome

Hands cut up and bruised, you return to me,
I embrace you. Gun shots in the city
Echo effortlessly between buildings
Clinging to your shirt, I plead, "Don't leave me."
Fading in and out, I can't keep you.
Life was never meant to be held onto.
No matter everything that we'd been through,
The Reaper will always chase after you.
Lover lying on the sidewalk, breathless.
Gone again, eyes shut. Render me helpless.
Gray fades to scarlet, life is so precious.
Concrete was never mean to bleed senseless.
Blood drips down his arm, mocking sleeping veins.
Sirens whirring in the distance, I pray:
"Please God don't take my lover today."
Fading in and out, I know he can't stay.
