Tropical Light

Tropical Light

A Poem by 'stiltskin

note: thoughts of an 11 year old child from UK after a year in Sierra Leone...

Tropical light, smiles so bright -
mangrove, sea and cotton tree.
A time I learnt to think; in ways
my parents never taught me.

I felt dis-ease with christian,
colonial rigidity;
a Life of white constriction -
just not satisfactory.

Kind Eastern neighbours,
in an African locality.
Fulani 'servant' Abdulai,
with ancient tribal dignity,

Preacher nor teacher,
could match his authenticity.
He'd call my father 'master',
then He'd wink at me..;)

...in memory of Abdulai Jalloh, a good man.
