How to make a Decorative Tree with Feathers

Although Christmas is still far from now.  But, you can still make a fake decorative tree that can be used for Christmas Eve or can be kept as a stylish décor piece at home. You can also use this tree as a part of the window displays for shops and department stores. There are various ways of creating a fake tree, but a feather tree has its own charm.  You can use white color ostrich, turkey or biot feathers for making the tree. It is a fun craft project activity that you can enjoy doing with your kids or family. You can follow the given instructions to make a stylish tree:

1) Get a large polystyrene cone (Styrofoam), bamboo skewer, and a hot glue gun with some extra glue sticks. You can search through some local craft stores to find all these items.

2) Buy the feathers of your choice. You can easily find white turkey feathers for sale at an online store.

3) Get an adhesive glitter spray and some really nice ornaments for decorating the tree. 

4) Carefully put the polystyrene cone on a table.

5) Plug in the glue gun to heat it up. Put a circle of glue around the bottom outside the cone, approximately a half inch above the base.

6) Before you start putting the feathers, segregate them as per their lengths into long, short and medium. 

7) Put one feather at a time on the glue with each feather put next to the other. Complete the bottom row like this and turn the tips of the feathers out.

8) Apply the row of hot glue above the first row in such a way that when you stick the feathers, half of the length of the feathers cover the previous row. Similar to the first row, turn up the ends of the feathers of this row.

9) Repeat the procedure for making rows of feathers one above the other. 

10) Use long feathers for the bottom rows, medium feathers for middle rows and small feathers for top rows and the tip. 

11) Take the bamboo skewer and insert it the feathered cone. Take a few small feathers and stick them around the tip of the cone where bamboo skewer meets.

12) With the help of a cutter, cut the extra skewer above the feathers off.

13) Now take a vellum sheet and cut a circle from it with a diameter of about half inches. Cut the circle into equal half circles. Turn one of the half circle into a cone shape and stick its edges with a double sided tape.

14) Now with the same vellum sheet cut three8-points stars and stick them onto the cone with the glue. Now spray the tree top with the adhesive glitter spray. Shed the extra glitter off it.

15) Now with the help of hot glue, stick the ornaments on the tree.

16) Your decorative tree is ready.
