Little MonstersA Story by steveA horror story.Mick peered at the kids as they sat in the back of the car. Janice was sound asleep, but her older brother played on his small game console not even looking up when his father asked him how he was doing. Mick sighed, knowing his children were growing up fast. In another 4 years his son would be a teenager. Time flies when you're having fun. He chuckled to himself. It was only four thirty in the afternoon. Not too long now. They'd spent the day at Pleasurewood Hills, and the kids had enjoyed it immensely. It would be at least an hour before they would arrive home. His wife had fallen asleep. He felt a little tired himself, but because he was the man of the house he felt like it was his responsibility to get them back safely. Looking in the front mirror again, he said to the little boy still busy with his gadget, "Are you winning, champ?" The boy whose name was Jack didn't take his eyes off the screen while he replied, "Yes, daddy." That was it. Mick rubbed his forehead. His wife fiddled with her nose while talking under her breath. He smiled to himself. He'd met her at college. He loved her more than life itself. Taking one hand off the steering wheel he brushed her lovely blonde hair gently. A slight smile came across her face, while muttering something. Then out of the blue came a scream which echoed through the car. Swiftly Mick stuck his foot down on the brake pedal not knowing what to think. With utter horror he then saw something in the sky above. "What's that daddy?" yelled his daughter, while she stared out of the side window pointing to all the pretty lights. Mick's heart was racing. His wife was wide awake as she rubbed her eyes. "What the hell is going on?" she asked, looking far from happy. He didn't know what to say, but copying his youngest he pointed towards the strange object in the sky. This is when they all looked up not quite believing what they were seeing. Mick got out of the car mesmerised by the huge craft which floated silently above. "My God. Aliens," was all he said, utter shock consumed him. In some ways it was one of the most disturbing things he'd ever witnessed, but at the same time it was exhilarating to watch. Did anyone else no about this, or was it just him and his family? From a nearby field a dog walker was seen coming out of an open gate, disbelief covering the older woman's face. Even the Alsation around her feet sensed something wasn't quite normal. "So it's not just me. What the hell is it?" Mick shouted to the woman with grey hair as she came closer with her pet. Her eyes were wide open, and concentrating while she crossed the road, replied with baited breath, "My God. I don't know what to say. It's utterly crazy. What the hell is it?" Before he could answer he noticed his kids running around the vehicle with excited looks on their faces. "Janice. Jack. Get back into the car now," he said sternly. Both did what they were told. Once they were safely in bickering about something, Mick turned to the woman. She must've been in her sixties, but he could tell she was a looker in her day. Her eyes were the bluest eyes he'd ever seen, as they stared at him with intensity. He was lost for words. He made an odd grunt which made the woman smirk. Then she said, "At least you've taken my mind off the spaceship. Thank you for that." Mick smiled. "I'm so sorry. It's been a strange long day. I don't mean to be rude." He glanced at his wife knowing what she was thinking. "Are you okay, Sophie?" he asked nervously. She looked the other way ignoring him. S**t, he thought. "Hopefully I'll catch you again," said the woman as she walked away from the car with her dog in tow. Mick felt aroused while he looked at her behind. Then he realised he was acting weird and needed to come to his senses. He smacked his head trying to wake himself up from whatever childhood fantasy he was experiencing. He took a few steps around the vehicle to his wife. "I'm so sorry, Sophie." She still didn't seem that impressed by his behaviour to a complete stranger, but answered, "Let's go home. I don't know what's up there in the sky but hopefully it'll bugger off and then we can all get back to bleeding normal." She got back in the car folding her arms. Being married was such a chore at times. Double s**t. Turning the key the engine started, and with that the family made the journey home. ................................................................................................................................................................ Looking out of the window at the spaceship caused Sophie to feel anxious. "What is it, Mick? It scares me." She brushed a hand through her short blonde hair before walking away from the ghastly sight back to the sofa, where her husband sat watching television. "What did you say, love?" was all he said, giving her a concerned look. "I have a terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach about that thing in the sky. I can't explain it," she replied nervously. Mick found this amusing. His wife seemed angry by his reaction. "So you thinks it's funny do you?" "A bloody massive spaceship has appeared. I'm petrified as well, but there's one thing I've learnt in this life. Don't worry about it," he answered while picking his nose. She picked up a cushion by her feet and slung it hard in his face while yelling, "So if your children get slaughtered by aliens that's all right with you is it, you utter b*****d?" Mick scratched his crotch, before saying, "Look, there's one thing I've learnt in this life. S**t happens. End of." She was absolutely disgusted by his attitude. "At times I hate you more than life itself. Well, if you don't give a s**t, why should I. Tonight I've decided to go out and have sex with another woman. So, bye, loser." Getting up she stormed out of the room. Mick saw her disappear through the doorway. Silly cow, he thought. Then he carried on watching TV without a care in the world, pretending everything was perfect. ................................................................................................................................................................ Around eight the little monsters as he liked to call them were in bed and Mick reluctantly walked down the stairs, knowing his wife was in the kitchen wanting to talk to him about something. He scratched his head, knowing he loved her very much, but since the aliens had arrived he found her rather annoying if the truth be told. Also the woman with the dog was playing on his mind. Maybe he was experiencing a mid-life crisis. Great. "What do you want?" he grunted as he walked towards her slightly pissed off. It was still early evening but Sophie was already dressed in her pyjamas. Mick stared at her with lust running through his mind. Why do I feel so bloody horny all of a sudden? She glanced at him not seeming too happy. "Why, mate?" Mick sat beside her and the first thing he did was rub a hand softly through her hair. "God, you turn me on," was all he answered. He noticed a light in her eyes which he hadn't seen for quite a long time now. Before he knew it their lips had met. With the kids safely in their beds they tore each others clothes off, then made passionate love by the oven. Afterwards both seemed a little confused by what had just occurred. Sophie chuckled to herself. "What a day," she muttered kissing him on the forehead. "Where the hell did that come from?" Mick didn't know himself, but since the craft had appeared he felt like a teenager again. "Maybe they're not evil at all." "You've lost me," she said while rubbing a hand down his chest. Mick sighed. "The bloody aliens." "Let's not talk about it. That bloody spaceship scares me," she replied quietly. She got up from the cold floor realising she wasn't wearing any clothes and the curtains were still open. S**t, what if one of the neighbours were watching? How embarrassing. She picked up her pyjamas and swiftly put them on. "I love you," said her husband. She glanced back with a smile on her face. "I love you too," she answered, meaning every word. Then she made her way to the bedroom for some much needed sleep. ................................................................................................................................................................ All over the news the next day was about the craft in the sky mysteriously disappearing. The majority of the people were utterly relieved by this, which was understandable. Sophie stood in the drive staring above not quite believing that the bleeding thing had gone. It was a sunny day and the temperature was agreeable. Thank God for that, she thought. Her neighbour Sarah walked towards her with a smile. "That thing freaked me out. What the hell was it?" Sophie didn't know what to say. "Well, at least the bloody thing has gone." "Sophie. I need to tell you something," Sarah replied excitement on her face. What the hell was it now, she thought. "So what is it?" she said impatiently. "Because I need to pick the children up from school." The other woman couldn't wait to tell her. "My Garry last night. Oh my God. Multiples. Yipee." At this point Sophie was utterly unimpressed. "What the hell are you talking about?" Then her nutty neighbour explained as Sophie slowly realised something wasn't right. The arrival of a spaceship and the best sex ever. A shudder ran through her as she ran from the annoying woman back into the house to check something which was now playing on her mind. ................................................................................................................................................................ Mondays were always the worst day of the week for Mick as he parked the car in the drive feeling tired and stressed. The moment he got out of the vehicle his wife appeared frantically from the entrance of the house. "What's wrong now?" he asked her, rubbing his forehead. "I thought I was pregnant. Bless God, I'm not," she answered. What the hell, he thought. "Last night was the first time in absolutely ages we have had sex and you're worried about having more babies. I had the snip three years ago. You can't even remember that? When I went to the hospital scared out of my mind, you were there holding my hand." Sophie looked to the concrete embarrassed. "I'm so sorry. But I have this bad feeling which I can't get rid of. I'm having trouble concentrating since that horrible thing appeared above us. Do you understand what I'm trying to say to you?" His only answer was, "Not really. Have you cooked my dinner because I'm bleeding hungry?" "You utter b*****d," was all she replied. After a few seconds she said with an angry stare, "And your sodding dinner is in the oven. I've already eaten mine because like usual you're bloody late. Goodnight, I'm off to bed to watch some lesbian porn." Mick rubbed his forehead while he watched her disappear into the house. What was her fascination with women all of a sudden. After last night he thought she'd be happy for once. Even though she stressed him out at times he did love her dearly. He'll find a way of making it up to her. He proceeded towards the house and entering the hallway put the car keys down, then made his way into the kitchen to eat his tea while scratching his crotch and burping loudly. ................................................................................................................................................................ The next four days they hardly talked as he was busy at work arriving home later than normal. But Friday night she apologised to him. This made him feel happy because he now had the weekend off to enjoy himself. Also his two little monsters were staying with Sophie's parents for the next few days because it was a school holiday next week. Praise the Lord. ................................................................................................................................................................ It was a normal relaxing Sunday when Sophie began screaming in sheer terror while she held her stomach. Mick rushed to her. "What's wrong?" he shouted, grabbing her by the shoulders. "I don't know," Sophie shrieked. Her eyes wide through fear. Carefully he placed her down onto the sofa noticing blood running down her inner thighs. Oh my God, he kept thinking. He picked up his mobile phone from the coffee table and dialled the number for the Emergency Services. Mick held her hand while he waited patiently for someone to answer. "Please help me," she shouted. For the first time in ages he couldn't think of a single word to say, and this scared him very much. ................................................................................................................................................................ At the hospital he waited in the corridor worrying. "Please be okay," he muttered putting his hands together. Many people were seen walking up and down, mainly doctors and nurses as they had a job to do. Sophie was still being examined in the room a few metres away. What the hell was going on? Approximately fifty seven minutes later a doctor appeared with a grave look on his face. "We need to talk," was all the man said. "Please come with me." Mick did what he was told, uncertain how bad the news was going to be. If the truth be told he was absolutely terrified. ................................................................................................................................................................ "Your wife is pregnant," the doctor said, dismay on his face. "But there's something which doesn't make sense. I hate to ask this, but has she had sex with animals, because if not I'm totally confused by this whole situation?" The man in his fifties folded his arms waiting for an answer. Mick didn't know what to think, and replied without giving it much thought, "Well, she reckons she likes women now instead of me. She's not going to get pregnant being with a woman is she. Animals? That's disgusting. What the hell, is this some TV prank?" The man scratched the top of his balding head. "In the last few hours women have been coming in with the same complaint as your wife. Do you understand? All pregnant even though they swear they haven't been with anyone else apart from their partners. Please tell me what the hell is going on so we can help your wife?" The doctor stood there seeming stressed. "I will show you what's in your wife's womb so you can understand the dilemma we face. Please follow me, sir." Was this some kind of sick joke, was Ant and Dec hiding in a room nearby filming it for their popular Saturday show. "How much are you getting paid for this?" Mick said angrily. The man turned to him looking confused, then replied, "What do you mean?" "Them b******s from Biker Grove have put you up to this haven't they?" Before the doctor could answer his wife was heard yelling from down the corridor. Then from all around women screamed in excruciating pain. Oh my God, Mick kept thinking, as both made their way to the room. At the entrance he peered in with utter horror. Sophie looked at him knowing the worst was going to happen but there was nothing she could do. A nurse was there staring in-between his wife's legs with a petrified look on her face while shouting, "She's giving birth to something. We need to help her." The doctor ran into the room closing the door, then locking it. From the other side Mick could hear despairing cries while he banged on the door worried for his wife. After a few minutes his strength had gone. Mick not knowing what to do with himself crawled back to a little room away from everyone else. Once inside he fell to the floor crying uncontrollably. I love you, Sophie. Please don't die. In that moment his life had crumbled and the thought of losing her filled his soul with terrible dread. If only he knew. ................................................................................................................................................................ He must've drifted off. He got up from the floor while rubbing his eyes, then made his way out of the room. After a couple of seconds he was met by the most ghastly sight. All he could see was red splattered onto the walls and the floor of the corridor. Then with complete shock he saw a half eaten body laying a few metres from him. He puked onto his trousers. What the hell had happened? He couldn't even remember his name or why he was here in the first place. His mind spinning he proceeded down the corridor noticing a door open a short distance away. Once he'd reached it he made his way into the room. The first thing he saw was a bed. On the mattress was a woman with a hole in her stomach. Her eyes were wide open, but lifeless. Holding his head he proceeded to the window which overlooked the huge car park. Corpses were observed all over the area. Tears ran down his cheeks. "Is anyone there to tell me what the hell is going on?" he yelled. Only silence. If he waited maybe someone would come? He glanced back at the pale face of the woman in her twenties. Her tummy had been ripped open by something, but what the hell had caused this to happen? Then looking back down through the glass he saw millions of little dark creatures as they appeared from behind the tall buildings below. One of the little b******s saw him and cried a horrible screech that echoed. All the others stared up making the same hideous noise. He knew there was nothing he could do. He pushed the window open. "My God. I'm so scared. I seem to be stuck in this terrible place with no way of escape apart from the thing which I fear the most." He could see the little monsters now climbing the walls trying to make their way to him. In their mouths were the sharpest teeth he'd ever witnessed. He stood on the ledge feeling the breeze on his face. "Goodnight world," was all he muttered, before closing his eyes and taking a step off calmly into the unknown. Sophie all of a sudden came into his mind. Once he'd hit the concrete the creatures feasted off his flesh. An hour later the sun went down and darkness spread across the land, and in the heavens above a huge craft with its many dazzling lights returned to a place which it could now call home. The End
