...And he was shrouded in darknessA Story by Steven StokesA forest. A Manor. RUN!The blood curdling screams coming from behind him were gradually fading. He hoped it was due to the fact that he was putting some distance between himself, and those things, however deep down he knew that it was because the entire campsite was being slaughtered by the...things. The branches from the trees whipped and scratched at his face as he ran, he didn't notice however, too much adrenaline was rushing through every vein in his body. Suddenly the distinct stench of stagnant water hit him with such a force it caused him to slow. Having no idea where he was he decided to head towards the smell, thinking he could get out of the forest. The water turned out to be a large pond almost completely filling the clearing. He hung back in the tree line to remain as hidden as possible incase them things came looking for him. He reached into his right hand side pocket for his phone, willing it to still work so he could call for help. He pressed the power button, happily being greeted by the warm glow of his smartphone screen. He only had time to read one text message before the battery failed him, it read; Felix, I'm taking the kids, since you've been gone me and max have got to know each other a lot better and have decided it would be best for all of us if I moved in with him instead, I have filled out my part of the divorce papers, your half are waiting for you at home. I would have waited for you to get home but me and Max just cannot wait any longer. I hope you learn to understand. Jess How could she do this to him? He couldn't understand it at all. Felix didn't get much time to think however before he heard rustling from behind him which set him off into a hard sprint in the opposite direction. Before he could slow he burst out of the treeline and onto the overgrown lawn of a large worn down manor. Without a second of thought he made his way towards the house and in through a broken stained glass window. He turned very slowly as not to make a sound, the room was growing every darker as the storm clouds rolled in overhead outside. Looking out towards the tree line he could make out dark figures which seemed to be twitching and shifting in the moonlight. Turning swiftly he made his way to the door, hoping to get deeper into the house and find somewhere to hind other than this empty room which was filled with nothing but broken glass and wind. He gripped the door handle tight and twister, there was a loud click which echoed through the halls on the other side. A dark force seemed to flood the room through the crack he made as he opened the door which sent a deep shiver down his spine. Suddenly he felt a hard push from behind and stumbled before landing hard on the wooden dust covered floor. He rolled onto his back in order to try and catch a glimpse of his attacker. All he could make out was a pair of smoky gray eyes staring at him before he was struck again, in the temple this time. He stirred as he was being dragged by the feet by this unknown being down the cellar stairs, when they reached the bottom however, he could no longer make out his hand in front of his face. And he was shrouded in darkness.
