You

You

A Poem by Steven Coty

You are beautiful
and I am a coward.
I keep running,
thinking I can escape it.
No distance
takes me
any further from
you.
I can't hold onto
this image
I have of you. I
need
you to
leave my thoughts
forever.

You are wonderful
and I am a freak,
undeserving of your
presence.
I kissed you
on the cheek
and felt that my
entire existence was
meant for me to
be with you.
Stupidly, I left
and you forgot
and I still can't
forget.
You keep me awake
night,
after
night,
unaware that you're doing
anything at all.

You are an angel
and I am doormat.
I wanted everything.
You gave what you could.
So, I ran
to the nearest person
who could give me more,
knowing
I wouldn't be happy
with her.
You saw me
and turned to the
nearest person
who wanted
nothing real,
knowing
you wouldn't be happy
with him.

You are innocent
and I am nothing.
I told you she was
meaningless;
I said I'd
do anything
for you.
You told me to go,
so I left.

You are gone
and I can't recover.
