![]() BallerinaA Poem by Susannah Rae![]() In response to Degas' "Dancer at the Barre II"![]() Her turnout perfected, her body artfully arched, she gently placed her leg atop the barre, one arm wrapped behind her back. Casual, comfortable; the most natural position in her world. All those years of dedication - Pliés, relèvées, piqués, the bleeding toes, the broke bones: it has all transformed a young girl, from a dreamer to a Ballerina. Her head held high, confident because she knows she has earned the yards of tulle about her waist, those coveted satin pointes on her feet; The embodiment of The Age of Enlightenment, she held her arabesque, as she waited for her cue.
