Solitude Series IIA Poem by steppenwolfLost in the librarySolitude
Series II By Steppenwolf 1 There were always teams and group projects Parties and dancing and dates As if you could thwart the fates And not end up alone. Mother groans And shepherds you along She sings a song Of warning, but of hope. If you chatter enough If you look pretty enough You won’t hear the leaves fall You won’t hear the howling call Of the wolf in the forest. 2 In the main branch of the Carnegie Library Across from the University of Pittsburgh’s Cathedral of learning A soul is burning Yearning to be free. Free! That’s the main thing. The trickle of a spring All will be remembering The smell of Murphy’s floor wax In the adult reading rooms To some a noxious fume To others a sweet perfume That tells you that you’re safe Others chafe At being cooped up here With nothing to do But you know you’ve won You can read, you can wander Look at dinosaur bones Dance to the tones Of an inner dance band That’s playing its heart out And the singer is singing I’m alone. © 2014 steppenwolfReviews
