Mix Tape

Mix Tape

A Poem by Stephanie
"

A mix of songs that remind me of Arron.

"
“Here we go again
I kinda wanna be more than friends”
Just a little bit--
Ever since I kept you company
Listened to your music,
Ate a popsicle you bought me
And held your hand…
“I’m all strung up, my heart is fried
I just can’t get you off my mind”
You keep creeping into my thoughts
Lingering a few seconds too long
Longer than you should be
I want to see you again,
Sometime soon!
“Here we are again
I feel the chemicals kickin’ in”
Chemistry’s not a question
You’re as close to me as possible
I feel every warm exhale
Every small kiss
I see the depths of your brown eyes
“You're just too good to be true.
Can't keep my eyes off you ”
Our first song and so true
My eyes and my mind always stray back to you
I’m blissfully lost in a new romance
Breaking down your walls
As you break some of mine
“And I'm racking my brain for a new improved way
To let you know you’re more to me than what I know how to say ”
It’s about two months along, I’m still falling
Every day with you is a new surprise
A whole new feeling than I’ve ever felt
I’m not one to rush so I tell you:
I kinda love you.
“I love your sushi roll, hotter than wasabi
I race for your love, shake and bake Ricky Bobby ”
Even thinking about it makes me laugh
The way we sang that song together
Joking it was “our song”
Just because it made us happy to repeat the ridiculous lyrics
I’ve never been so free with anyone
“Code Monkey like Fritos
Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew ”
What is a Code Monkey?
You never had an answer for me
I didn’t really want one!
Just another excuse to act silly
For me to fall even faster
“And now you’re beside me
And look how far we’ve come.”
Remember that word “kinda”?
I don’t need it anymore!
I love you, plain and simple
No fillers or buffers…
And the best part is you love me too.
“Let’s do the fork in the garbage disposal,
Ding ding ding ding ding ding ding ding.”
Who didn’t know the Yes Dance?
It took over school like a virus
We annoyed our parents for weeks
Playing it over and over again…
Another silly song, another great memory.
“And all my life,
I prayed for someone like you.”
You hold me against you
We spin slowly in circles,
Dancing at prom.
I didn’t pray, but I did always hope
That you would come along.
“Two people meant to be together
Two lovers dreaming of forever
And it just keeps on getting better
With every tender little kiss”
We’ve both had those dreams
Married, kids and a dog or two
(Who are not sleeping outside).
They’re only dreams for now,
But I can’t picture me without you.
“They don’t know how long it takes
Waiting for a love like this.”
I was the last person to think
I’d find someone so special
I had almost given up on guys
And then the night came
When I saw you alone on that couch.
“Double rainbow, double rainbow, it's so intense.
What does this mean? It's startin’ to look like a triple rainbow.”
Just the next silly song on the list
You found so many versions
And we followed along with all of them!
It still brings a smile to my face
Remembering the laughs.
“We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you're mine all mine”
The one whole night we spent together
Is one I’ll never forget
Warm and safe next to you
Completely content, totally happy
Our moment to treasure.
“I found my place in the world
Could stare at your face for the rest of my days”
As our time wound down before you left
We found another song to call ours
My place is with you,
No matter how close or far
And no matter the obstacles.
“I am in misery,
There ain’t nobody who can comfort me.”
The day you left broke my heart
To be apart for so long…
Our friends took care of me
Just like you asked them to.
And after a while, my pain went away.
“Just by looking at a sticker for the US Marines,
On the bumper of my S.U.V. ”
Well, my sticker was on my phone
Due to my lack of S.U.V.
And the symbol hangs around my neck everyday
Even though you’re gone,
I still show you off!
“Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky
Are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now.”
Every plane I saw reminded me of you
Made me wish you were on it
Coming back home…
And every dream I had of you
Was one I hated to wake from.
“He counts them, he checks them, he looks for clues and finds
The ones with hearts on the outside
Some postman is grooving to all our love letters
Some postman is gonna cry”
I put my hearts on the inside!
Your letters made me laugh and cry
One letter could turn a bad day around
I got one almost every week,
So I guess we thwarted the postman.
“My dearest love it’s almost dawn
I been laying here all night long…
I couldn’t sleep
But I’ll be all right, I’m just missin’ you
And this is me kissing you
X’s and O’s in a letter from home”
As the day draws closer that I get to see you
Get to hold you again,
It’s so much harder to sleep.
I still say I love you every night
But now I add, “See you soon.”
“All my loving I will send to you
All my loving, darling I’ll be true.”
I send my love in every way:
Written a hundred times in each letter
Spoken every night before bed
All day in my thoughts.
It’s endless.
“You are the best thing that's ever been mine”
Completely and beyond compare.
I love you.

I love this poem. Makes me all warm inside. I love the layout of the poem and how it had song lyrics stuck in between the poem. The rhyming was very well done. Great Job!

OMG I remember the days of making mixed tapes... I like this a lot... very original to put your thoughts surrounded by lyrics that reminds you of him... I also like how not all of them are love songs but still reminders...

my favorite part...

“Code Monkey like Fritos
Code Monkey like Tab and Mountain Dew ”

What is a Code Monkey?
You never had an answer for me
I didn’t really want one!
Just another excuse to act silly
For me to fall even faster
