Hey You, Smile

Hey You, Smile

A Poem by Stephanie
"

Dedicated to a friend :)

"

Dear Friend:

I know they've knocked you down

Unknowingly hit you again and again

 until you finally stopped trying to get up;

Staying put in the cold, tainted atmosphere

 listening to the harsh judgements,

whether they were yelled or silently implied-

Taking it all to heart until the noise drowns

out the sound of its beating.

 Tune them out!

 Just for a moment,

push it all away and listen to me:

 High school is petty.

Full of catty fights, life changing rumors,

bullies, immature kids and the rare friends

 that make it worthwhile.

 I'm one of those friends.

One who see deeper than the surface,

accepts and loves you for just that-

 You.

 And though we're distant,

 I know we've grown close.

 So please know this:

Among the pettiness of high school

 and far beyond-

 I'm here for you.

Smile knowing you'll always have someone to turn to.

Smile through the drama knowing it can't last forever.

Smile when it pours knowing the sun can always break the darkness.

Smile at those who treat you the worst knowing they don't have

 the same thing you do-

 A shoulder to lean on.

 A friend to trust.

"The only people you need in your life are those who prove

 they need you in theirs."

I love this! High school was such a difficult time for me too. And yes.. what you say is true... full of pettiness at times... things that won't matter in a short while. What a lifting write so full of hope and smiles... Yes!!!!

I think that was sweet of you to write this for your friend in emotional need... kids can be quite cruel in school... I'd like to say it gets better when you are older but these days many adults are that way... anyways you gave your friend some very sound advice... to tell the truth those who put others down are usually down on themselves and jealous of others, they have to pretend to fit in and are envious of those who are themselves.
