Tequila Goddess

Tequila Goddess

A Poem by Stephanie

Somewhere among the gods and goddesses
In a place not quite known to mortals
She lounges on her champagne chaise
Licking her lips after another small sip
Silver eyes look down into the world beneath
Keeping watch on those who consume her spirit
A young woman dancing atop a bar
A teenage boy sneaking another shot
A couple on their first date who need a little encouragement
All nourished by the goddess unknown to them
In her world of pleasure and delight
A smirk dances on her shimmering mouth
Mortal fools underestimate her influence
Hidden behind a smooth and fresh descent
Never knowing what consumed them
Until the sun rises in the morning
Permeating the darkness in their minds
The tequila goddess retires to slumber
Crystal glass by her bedside forever filled

A thought provoking piece about one of my old favorite deities. I thought the form was inviting and I like the tone of the narrative. Detached, matter of fact. It lent a verve of realistic legitimacy, to an other wise mythical subject matter. A good enchating solid- poem, to usher in your comeback...
